Everette Sorrells' Chip Collection

Many of you knew Everette Sorrells who died from Covid in February. Everette had lost his wife, Rosie, to Covid only a few weeks before. He was a fine man who retired from the National Guard after 42 years of service. He was also an avid collector of chips, baseball cards, coins, paper money, and stamps.

Recently I contacted his son about Everette's chip collection and offered to help figure out what's in the collection and maybe find buyers, perhaps among members of the CCA. Unfortunately, the collection is not well organized and is not cataloged, but there are thousands of casino chips in 3-ring binders and coin boxes and piled in plastic bins. Many of the chips are from Mississippi and Louisiana casinos but there are many, many from Nevada and other states. Also a small group of Cubans; some limited editions; quite a few slot cards; some playing cards and dice; and miscellaneous casino souvenirs. Spoiler alert: I bought all of the illegals which were mostly from Mississippi and Louisiana.

If you are interested in any of Everette's casino collection please contact me or see me at the CCA show later this week. I compiled a brief description of the binders and coin boxes and have some photographs which may help you see what's there.

If nothing else, this should be another wake up call about the disposition of our collections. We all need to have our stuff organized and have a plan for the inevitable.
