My family and my uncles family rented a bungalow in Breezy Point in the 60s.
Charles Haynes, Brooklyn DA, either lived in Breezy Point full time or had a second home there. Hynes was appointed special prosecutor in the infamous Howard Beach case. The case involved a white gang chasing three black kids out of their “hood”. One of the black kids died when he was hit by a car while running away from the gang. The case was on NY tv constantly
What I found interesting was that no one could enter Breezy point without a pass. The number of minorities that were members of Breezy Point at the time, was a big fat zero. Breezy Point was a private, whites only, community.
I wonder why the press never brought up the fact that the special prosecutor appointed by Mario Cuomo, lived in a private, whites only community. Some things never change.
