The Louisiana casino still uses the riverboat for its gambling floors while a very modern, multi-story hotel and garage structure gives the appearance of a well-groomed land based casino. Other smaller Louisiana riverboats have been able to build an outer wall around the boat, and elevate the boat as like in dry dock. Some of those tactics were employed in neighboring Mississippi at Biloxi and Tunica. They are still riverboats. Up until recently, some riverboats had to run their engines, have a legitimate captain, conduct safety drills, etc under the guidance of the U.S. Coast Guard. It's my understanding they are still riverboats that must be ready to sail if necessary.
