Over the years I have attended hours of seminars, classes, debates, etc on the subject of compulsive gambling. After all of that, I have reached two conclusions. 1. I have never seen someone who is winning who has a gambling problem. 2. 100% of the people who we have dealt with for a gambling addiction were addicted to something else before gambling. It might sound cold but I have never felt sorry for anyone with this problem. I have felt sorry for the family members we have dealt with. I have felt worse than sorry for the children we have taken out of dangerously hot and cold cars while the parents were in the casino. Not to mention the poor dogs. I did get a perverse sense of satisfaction when I was able to break their car windows to get to victims. In all the years I never allowed our security to give them a 'break'. I always insisted we call family services before we called the local authorities. I guess I got very hard hearted about that and I don't miss that part of the business.
