I stopped off at a flea mart near Kennebunk, ME. My question at each table was "Any casino chips?" In a box loaded with jewerly, one
dealer pulls out a blue .50 Silver City chip, a casino which I am completely unaware of. Back home I pull out The Chip Rack. It's valued
at $30-$39. Which prompted further checks. Silver City issued 30 denominations over a 25 year period. Values increase from $800
to $3500 today. Owner was Major Riddle (1906-1980). That name prompted a wildcat ride through gaming history. Names like Virginia Hill, Al Capone, Bugsy Siegel, Brugnara, Steve Wynn, Michael Jackson and Leonardo da Vinci. Up pop other casinos such as The Dunes, Desert Inn, Riata and Holiday International. Along with minor themes such as first topless showgirls (Minsky Folies), first hotel to ban smoking, the Teamsters Pension Fund, the Kefauver Hearings, and the book, The Weekend Gambler Handbook (Riddle). since 2004,
the site is known as Silver City Plaza. Wow!!! What a hobby. Robert Denbow R-7362
