There are other chips with similar hand painted inserts that are in use.
The reason this was done is the chips were needed in a short space of time.
I actually saw the Paulson records on the Showboat and Bally's.
It may well be they were later replaced with non painted chips but they were definitely supplied.
By the way, the original auction consignor, who had a number of each, got them from the casinos.
If they were in any way prototypes then firstly I really doubt they would exist uncancelled. Also, why would they all show wear consistent with casino use.
I believe Archie had these listed way before anyone queried them in 2011.
If older chips with those shaped inlays are exposed to anything that expands or shrinks them (as in bad storage) then those inlays pop off clean. They don't need any help to remove them.
