Unless I missed a checkbox somewhere, nowhere on eBay is there a requirement to disclose who you are, what clubs/affiliations you have, nor is there a requirement that one list, offer to purchase, or agree to a sale that is fair or unfair. It is literally the definition of willing buyer willing seller. The person who listed it is not a member of the CCA (right?), so what protections should she be offered? None. The club can demand (request, really) that members treat each other under the club’s rules and guidelines, but is has no jurisdiction outside of member-to-member transactions, and certainly has no purview on eBay.
Next, let’s discuss value. Caches of chips are still found from time to time. The seller may have 200 of these. Or her boyfriend may have more. You and I can’t know. Maybe the buyer knows amd made his offer based on that. So, what’s the value of the chip then? Just because SSS publishes a price (which they CLEARLY state in the preface is not to be taken as gospel), does not mean a seller must receive that value, nor does it require a buyer to pay that value.
Even knowledgeable people can end up not getting a “fair” price from time to time. I have a good handful of chips I bought for $0.99 from Mitch Heller, some with book values of $50+. Did I rip him off (let’s not actually ask him - I’m just using this as an example to mock your overlord tendencies)? Did he cry when the auction ended with a low sale value (maybe a little - who knows how Mitch behaves in private)? I’ve made many chip purchases through auctions, buy-it-nows, Craigslist, and Facebook marketplace that yielded tremendous value to me. I’ve sold many of those acquired chips for multiples of what I paid, and I know/assume I’ve purchased chips at relatively high prices from people who picked them up dirt cheap. Again, willing buyer, willing seller, and if you’re neither party in the transaction, mind ya own damn bidness.
I happen to own about 75 cable company receivers, decoders, combiners, and such. eBay sales shows several sales of one model that sold recently for $800-$1200. A reseller/refurbisher told me my list of gear was worthless but they’d pay me $0.25/lb. is that ethical? Not by your rules. I listed some of them on eBay and had an offer come in to buy them all for $300ea. Are they also being unethical? Or just trying to maximize value? Since you’re all about being fair, Bill, I demand that YOU buy my cable gear at a fair price (that I will determine). My PayPal address is the email shown here. I’ll be sure to ship the gear at no charge.
In short, YOU, Bill, are being a proverbial “Karen” and sticking your nose into something that’s none of your business. Want to advise Dee? Fine. Want to hold a private opinion of the offer maker (or me for writing this)? Also fine. Outing and/or publicly shaming someone for simply making an offer is ridiculous, heavy handed, and sure makes me think you run HOAs for a living. You DO owe him an apology, and you owe it to yourself to git while the gittin’s good. Quit digging a deeper hole for yourself, and please have a look at my traders and make full high book value offers on everything I’m willing to trade/sell. It’s only fair.
