This plaque is from France... and the spot that received the stamp was textured which probably meant there was some serious scrubbing involved that could possibly leave scratches.

Thus the meaning of a plaque being in its "original state of preservation" when it is a quality, desirable piece and not something all scratchex up under magnification...
