That would be a great analogy if I was a foreigner who came to the US and was disillusioned and felt my life was better where I came from and the benefits of being here did not outweigh the negatives. In that case, why wouldn't I go back? Your analogy fails (for me) because I was born in the US. I was not born into this club. I was prompted to join. One might even say bribed. I saw value and fellowship and good times by being a member and felt $35 or so was a small contribution to make for value I expected to receive, some/much of which was interacting with fellow chippers on 2 boards (CCA and Chip Board). There are still rays of sunshine on the chip and cca boards, but due to the structure (one big free for all, no categories to separate the cats and dogs), I'm forced to sit and watch it all in Clockwork Orange fashion.
I would not leave the US because of the vitriol of an election, but I'd do (and did) my damnedest to turn off the noisemakers who were repeating the same message over and over and over again. I cast my vote, the election is over, and people have shut up as expected.
My membership is good for a few more months. We'll see how things go. Will there be gloating winners and sore losers? Will there be reconciliation among former "enemies"? What can we expect during the next election cycle?
