I think if you explain your concern with the potential buyer their response wold most likely give you an idea of their intentions/motivations. It’s certainly no guarantee.
Let’s assume someone pays you with “0” feedback. Another thing you can do is BEFORE YOU SHIP ANYTHING, hit the “print shipping label” on . That will provide the buyer’s name and address. Is it a PO Box? Possible red flag. Then do an internet search on the address provided. Does it look like a residence? Does the name of the buyer match the name of the owner? (Could be a rental, so that should not be a deal breaker.) If you are not comfortable, just cancel the transaction and refund the $.
That is about all I know what you can do. The rest would be up to eBay’s seller protection, which is much less than their buyer protection.
