To start with I want to thank all my Chip Collecting friends for their thoughts, prayers, emails and contacts during this most trying time for the Birl Family as we continue to deal with the aftermath of the tragic accident that befell my 16 year old Grandson Gavin Birl just 3 days ago. Nancy and I along with the rest of the Family sincerely appreciate your concern.
Gavin is still in ICU and is recovering gradually. He had been fitted with a special body brace to help stabilize his spine and to aid in his recovery. After he gets out of ICU he will be transported to a rehab hospital in Philadelphia were he will probably spend several months in rehab and recovery. During the operation on Tuesday, the doctors implanted metal rods in his spine to help stabilize his injured spinal cord - these rods will remain in his body for the rest of his life.
There has been a great outpouring of love and support from the local community and a friend of the Family has set up a "Go Fund Me" page for Gavin. In just 2 days they have raised over $54,000. A link to the "Go Fund Me" page is below.
