Re: Club Harlem Reno Casino History Video!

By the time I got into the Harlem Club in the 70s, it was renamed the Soul Club. There was only one
21 game but they still used Harlem chips. I remember buying four $5 and some purple 50 cent
chips marked NB and some that said Club Harlem. The $5s had a cowboy boot on them as Bill Baily
was fond of wearing them. Baily bought the Peavine Club at 219 Peavine (later Evans Av) in 1945
and ran it as the Harlem Club until 1947 when it was moved to 221 Douglas Alley. I remember it was
behind the New China Club. I recommend this book, "The River and the Railroad" as it has a great
history of the Lake-Evans block clubs and bars.
