A good friend of mine went to his local post office to have his property taxes payments postmarked at the end of last year. When he finally got to the window after a 20 minute wait, he asked the postal clerk to postmark his letters. He said she looked at him with a dead pan stare and asked him "why didn't you just put a stamp on the letters and drop them in the outside box". He stated to her that the letters needed to be postmarked so that the addressee would know he mailed them on time. She said nothing to him turned around and walked away from her station. After several minutes, she came back with a visible angry look on her face. She postmarked the letters and he paid (with the exact amount) for the cost of first class mailing she quoted. He reluctantly said "thank you" and she immediately yelled "NEXT". He told me that it was the first time he had experienced such hostility for such a basic task at his usually very friendly local post office. Our postal system has a serious attitude problem. And not just due to the pandemic. Just my opinion.
