Got to walk and crawl through sections of the attics where everything imaginable was still there... We were also once taken to locations off property to see the sad stuff; photos and all maintained by the German government...

As GI's... we were treated like gold with the highest respect by the locals... and I even got to work in a German kitchen cabinet shop part time (needed the DMs) with many guys being my age who had also recently finished vocational high school. We exchanged tricks of the trade and on German holidays (which they had a lot of) was invited to their homes for dinner... It was a fun 18-months of my life...
