Sad to hear about the PI. I lived there as a boy at Clark AFB from 1971-74 (martial law time). My dad was one of the base commanders there so we lived very well. I was only 11 but learned Tagalog pretty quickly as all my friends were locals. We lived off base the first 18 months and I had blue eyes and blond hair so everyone treated me like a curiosity in Angeles City. The people of the PI were so nice and treated me like family all the time. At 12 I would take a jeepny into Manila by myself. Fond memories...
