One of the attorneys I work for used to be a U.S. Prosecutor and he absolutely FREAKED OUT when I mentioned I have a phoney $100 bill around here somewhere (found it in the gutter of a street in White Plains, NY years back). Years ago it was some sort of major crime just to be "in possession" of counterfeit money. Made no difference as to your "intent," to try passing it or displaying in a window for laughs. Nowadays maybe Federal agents have enough on their hands than to bother trying to round up all the fake money out there (especially a lot after color photocopying machines were perfected).
