I have often wondered if it is caused by deterioration of the lead slug. "Extraheavy" was one way the chips could be ordered and the easiest way to ad weight was to incorporate lead slugs into the core of the chip. The AGA has a die for punching up to 3 holes in the center inlay area - "Super Extra Heavy"
