A colorful horse trader, bootlegger, and gambler, Benny "the gambler" Binion buys the Eldorado club at 128 E. Fremont and names it the HORSESHOE. Binion arrived in LV in 1946, about the same time Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo hotel on the strip. After investing in a couple of casinos, he decides to set up his strickly family-operated casino. He installs carpeting - the first downtown-and quickly gains attention for high stakes gamblers. The display of $10,000 bills will be long remembered.
