Talking to the club president?.....your presidents #1 agenda since taking office seems to be the manufacture, promotion, posterizing, trading, collecting, and holding contests about personal chips. HOW DOES THIS HELP THE HOBBY????? It only serves the egos of its members.
Look at any "Convention Review" issue of the club magazine in the last 15 years....nothing about chips, casinos, activity at the dealer tables, new finds, what was hot, what was not, etc. What you do get is thirty pages of photos of club members congratulating themselves for attending the convention. HOW DOES THIS HELP THE HOBBY???
Any time i do make a suggestion that is not a direct, ego-feeding benefit to already existing club members, it is immediately bashed by the herd.
I am not a member because, in my opinion, the club is not focused on advancement of the hobby. I believe many of its policies actually hinder growth and turn off potential collectors/investors. The club/hobby has basically ignored the great gambling boom of 2003-2010, the rise of social media, and the nike-buying, comic-con attending, collectible investing demographic, all in deference to aging members who want to hold onto 1996 forever.
