In the corporate world, we try very hard to keep biased opinions and impartiality out of the selection decision making process. The board does not get together over drinks and decide who should serve on the board. The company shareholders decide by a fully documented vote. Its not perfect, but it definitely helps to keep the politics out of the process. Having sat on numerous boards throughout my military and civilian career, I feel well qualified to make this determination. I have never been a big fan of the " GOOD OLE BOY PROCESS ". I have always believed that people should be judged on their own merits and accomplishments, not on who they know.
