Walter, I remember the game room in the 70s. I think there were a couple of 21s and also
some poker tables and maybe slots. I never saw any players. I knew the owner Louie Dotson
from the old A-1 casino. His dad had the old Northern Lounge in Ely and he gave some chips
from a there. I don’t know if the games were flat at the Hide Away, but many of the small town
club’s were. I guess they didn’t have enough play to cover their losses. Also if a tourist won and
took their cash down the road it was gone for good. There was always the problem of cross-
roaders taking a shot. Louie told me he had all the A-1 chips in the trunk of a old car parked
in his yard but couldn’t find the keys. I offered to pry it open but he said no. Never did get the chips.
