The Chesterfield Club was deliberately set up to simulate the look of a autombile repair garage.
Free buses and taxi's would pick up patrons at special locations along Gratiot in Detroit, and then
they would pull inside the establishment, the door would close and the gambling room was upstairs.
The Club had slot machines and table games such as craps / Named after Chesterfield cigarettes ....
Denominations Include: 10 - 20 - 50 and a special "CC" that was given to patrons - cannot find out
for what reason. Because of the time period & economy, chips might have been in cents, not dollars
Chesterfield Club - an illegal gambling establishment owned by George Weinbrenner, Dan Sullivan
and Lincoln Fitzgerald. It was protected by Detroit's "Purple Gang" for almost 20 years.
As an illegal gaming spot, they manged to stay open from 1924 - 1943, a long time for an illegal club.
In 1946, Fitzgerald opened the Nevada Club in Reno, Nevada. The Nevada Club closed in 1998
