~~~ and some who have found remnants of the boards used suggest earlier... since it was widely played in Eastern China in the 10th century.

The game moved to the US in the mid-1800's with in New England and then further South with the name Poker. Not sure when the term Poker was used in France, but I would think during the period when they were attracting the British on the north coast. Dieppe is well known for carvers of Ivory and engravers of nacre. Caro in Paris had employed engravers there was well.
