I grew up in Westport, CT. A couple of houses away was a large house owned by the actor David Wayne. There was a long yard to the side of his house (maybe 80+ yards) where he used to hit golf balls. He would hit one, walk to it and hit it back the other way. I guess his eye site was not that good, as after he hit a ball, we would run out of the nearby woods, grab the ball and hide again. He would search for his ball, shake his head, walk back and get another. We kept doing this for a while until he spotted my brother and chased us off with a golf club, yelling all the way.
He then sold the house to Neil Sedaka. Neil used to drive around Westport in his Rolls Royce convertible. From all accounts, a very nice and generous man.
The house was then either sold or rented to Robert Redford. All the mothers in the neighborhood used to drive up and down Old Hill Road hoping to get a glimpse of Redford going to his mailbox.
