Not sure if I ever told it to everyone . . .
Staying in C.C. for a meeting of the Northern Calif. Club in Reno - I moseyed into the Nugget hoping to buy some of their $1 Anniversary chips, CG # 124264 (think it made COTY once). There was a card game going on the floor with a lady dealer; and a poker game going on behind closed doors. The poker tables were covered with golden chips. The lady had but a few at her table. So, I asked if I could buy five of hers.
"No way!" she replied. "We need them all for the game. They are in very short supply here!"
I thought to remind her of the Golden Glow emanating from the Poker Room, but she had a definite No-Nonsense look about her and the players were starting to scowl at me, too. I sighed and said,
"In that case, I'll just cash in this other dollar chip at the cage."
I pulled out a CG 015617, a rather worn example of the $1 hot-stamped golden-yellow chip and started to walk away.
"Wait!" cried the Dealer. "I can swap you one anniversary chip for that one right here!"
And so I left the Nugget happy to have at least one Anniversary chip in my pocket. And the players and Dealer went on happily with their game, with the same number of golden chips as before.
