A few years ago I was at the convention, we were at the South Point, headed up the escalators on Wednesday morning to help with set up. The convention floor opens on Thursday and Wednesday is used by the dealers for set up. I noticed the guy just ahead of me on the escalator was Johnny the Toy Guy from the Pawn Stars TV Show. Whenever they got an old toy on the show that they needed to be authenticated and valued they called in Johnny. I said hello to him and asked him what he was doing here today? He replied that he was going to the Chip Convention. I asked him if he had a table? No, replied. I then told him that the show for the public doesn't open until tomorrow, could he come back? He said that he couldn't, they were filming Pawn Stars and he was that episode. I then said that maybe I could get him in today and that he could see some of the dealers who were already set up. I got him in and we walked around. Most of the tables weren't set up yet, so it was slim pickings. We passed by Larry Hollibaugh's table and he was setting up with his daughter, she was star struck. By the end of the conversation she was going to be one of the people in the crowd walking around the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in the background on tomorrow's episode. Did you know that what you see on the TV show is not the actual store? They built a replica in the back of the warehouse for filming. We continued walking around and we got to a table where the dealer was a collector who had just retired, was going to sell the house, buy an RV and tour the country. Sorry, I can't remember his name. He was selling off his entire collection. He negotiated a large deal with Johnny, he might have sold Johnny half of us stuff. The dealer was so thrilled, he gave me a Bill Borland Blue Book as a thank you. One of my best memories from the convention.
