Locals will gamble. I think that the New York point of view might be very different than the rural Nevada point of view. There were several hundred people at the capital today protesting the shut down. People want to be at work. I support the governors initial call to shut everything down. Now it’s time to let things open up and get people back to work. Everyone in my company is on reduced pay or furlough at this time. That’s thousands of Nevadans.
Let’s take some common sense measures:
- Allow businesses that are safe to reopen to reopen immediately. This includes golf courses (I am not a golfer, but closing them was a bad decision). Safe is determined by if there is sufficient social distancing. This would put many people back to work.
- encourage high risk people to stay at home, allow the rest out.
- encourage people to wear masks, not to keep from catching covid-19, but to limit the transmission.
- business pies are already installing partitions to keep a barrier between customers and employees.
As a country, we can only go to the well so many times before we run out of money, and I fear that day is closer than one might think.
