Sad news passing of Lynn Brooks LM-1963-74

We learned today of the passing of Lynn Brooks. He was a good friend and will be missed. His wife Randi posted the following on Facebook:

On March 19, 2020, Gainor “Lynn” Brooks died suddenly while at work. He is survived by four children, Erin (42), Kelly (41), Brady (18) and Lindsay (18), as well as two grandchildren, Jackson (9) and Parker (8). Lynn LOVED his hometown of Hawthorne, California and took pride in being a Hawthorne High Cougar. After high school, he attended the University of Southern California (USC) and was very active in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He subsequently obtained a Master Degree and went on to become an ABD Ph.D. scholar. He began his career as a teacher and ended it as an administrator. He retired after 35 years from Torrance Unified School District. He was passionate about service. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was very proud of his veteran status. He later joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department (LASD) as a reserve deputy where he continued to be an active volunteer for an astounding 32 years. At the time of his death, Lynn was the sole provider for his household and two youngest children. Brady and Lindsay are twins and recently celebrated their 18th birthday. As accomplished High School Seniors, they have, as we all have, given the current crisis, suffered quite a bit of loss recently. There will be no prom for them, no grad night, no graduation. On top of all that, they have now lost their father and will need to move out of their home. Lynn’s unexpected death has left his family without the ability to meet immediate financial needs including rent, utilities, gas and food. Without their father’s income, it will also be impossible to address future expenses like college tuition. As a graduate of USC and an educator, he would have wanted ALL of his children to have the opportunity to go to college. While we realize that this is a very uncertain and trying time for people globally, we are asking that if you knew Lynn, worked with him, were greeted by him or he touched your life and you miss him like we do, that you please consider contributing to this fund. Phi Alpha and Fight On, Dad. You’re Code Four now. Lynn was LM1963-74. His wife Randi has a GoFundMe page.
