MAURITIUS
Mauritius , officially the Republic of Mauritius (French: République de Maurice)s an island nation,in the Indian Ocean . The main Island of Mauritius is located about 2,000 kilometres off the southeast coast of the African continent. The Republic of Mauritius also includes the islands of Rodrigues, Agalega and St. Brandon. The capital and largest city Port Louis is located on the main island of Mauritius. In 1598, the Dutch took possession of Mauritius. They abandoned Mauritius in 1710 and the French took control of the island in 1715, renaming it Isle de France. France officially ceded Mauritius including all its dependencies to the United Kingdomon1814. In 1968 Mauritius became an independent country.
The gambling Industry in Mauritius is regulated by Gambling Authority Act 2007, which repealed the former legislation the Gaming Act 18,1 July 1973, amended on September 2004.

A Gaming House is any premise approved by the Gambling Regulatory Board where gaming house games are played or available to be played. A Gaming House Operator is either a company for a Gaming House “A” or an individual for Gaming House “B”, licensed to operate the Gaming House in accordance with the rules of gaming house games approved by the Gambling Regulatory Authority Board. There exist two categories of Gaming House Operator in Mauritius.
In 2018 the list of prescribed gaming house games authorized to be played in Gaming House “A” is as folows:10 ½, Big and small, Big Wheel, Bingo, Crabs, Chinese Dominoes (boeuf), Over/Under 7, Poker, Premier Roi, Quatre Quatre, Sap Si Waye, Sic Bo,Tai Sai, Vanlak.
The list of prescribed gaming house games authorized to be played in gaming Houses “b” is as follows: Mahjong, Rummy.

On 2018 there were 4 casinos licensees : Casino De Maurice Ltee- Teste de Buch Street, Curepipe; Le Caudan Waterfront Casinos Ltd- Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis, Le Grand Casino du Domaine Limitee – Domainde des Pailles, Pailles and Grand Baie Casino Ltd- Royal Road, Grand Bay.
CASINOS DE MAURICE Limited
A company limited by shares, incorporated on 2nd May 1974.
The State Investment Corporation, founded in 1984 is the investment arm of the Government of Mauritius. The SIC had participation in several hotels and casinos, being subsidiaires in the gambling sector:
Beach Casinos Ltd- the main activity of the Company is the running of a Casino at Trou Aux Biches. With table gaming as well slot aperations.
Casino de Maurice Ltee – the operational premise of Casino de Maurice is located at Curepipe.with tables and slots. It was the first casino to open in Mauritius on 1970.
Le Caudan Waterfront Casino Ltd-engaged in the operation of Casino Caudan waterfront, with 194 slots and 18 gaming tables.
Le Grand Casino du Domaine Ltee- the main activity of Le Casino du Domaine (LGCD) is the operation of a casino at Domaine des Pailles, with table games and slot machines.
Sun Casinos Ltd- the main activity of Sun Casinos Lts is the operation of casinos at Saint Geran Hotel and La Pirogue Hotel, small casinos with slots and table games. These casinos are now closed.
State Investment Corporation (SIC), which manages now 4 casinos, under the collective heading Casinos of Mauritius. It is the only casino license holder in Mauritius.Government involvement in the casino industry provides a major tourist attraction which employs about one thousand people.
On August 2014 SNC as the majority shareholder in the above companies was seeking expressions of interest for the sale of one or more of the following licensed casinos: Casino de Maurice Ltd, Sun Casinos Ltd, Le Grand Casino du Domaine Ltd and Le Caudan Waterfront Casino Ltd.

CASINO HOTELS / CASINOS CLOSED
The legislation besides casinos, gaming houses , consider also licenses for hotel casinos.
Part IVA – Hotel Casinos- 22ª Licensing of hotel casinos (1) No hotel shall operate a casino unless it holds a hotel casino license; (2) No hotel casino license shall be issued unless the hotel payd the license fee specified in the Thirs Schedule to the Authorithy (NOTE- To boost tourism the Government has placed rates for hotel casinos infinitely lwer than rats for casinos and gaming houses – Rs 55 thousands for hotel casinos and Rs 3,5 millions for casinos and gaming houses.Values per year.) ; (4) A hotel casinoshall be operated in a specially space aproved by the Board;(3) No person shall use the word “hotel casino” as a name or a parto f the name of any trade or business premises unless the premises are licensed as a hotel casino.No game, other than a hotel casino game, shall be played in a hotel casino.
No one hotel casino has been licensed under the new legislation from 2007.
Following the opening of first casino in Mauritius in 1970, with the development of tourism huge resorts were constructed along the coast. They opened casinos on their premises to complemente their guests´recreational activities.
Given the location of hotels and resorts, on beaches far from urban centres, casino customers were almost exclusively hotel guests, and casinos were relativelu small.The casinos in the hotels opened and closed. Today there are no more casinos open in the hotels.
