Las Vegas Club stuff (original LVC) grin

Since some of you are enjoying my other posts, here's more for your viewing pleasure grin

In 1929 John Kell Houssels moved from California to Las Vegas. He paid $6,000 for one-third interest in the Smoke Shop, at 21-23 Fremont Street and renamed it the Las Vegas Club. When gambling was legalized in 1931 he and his partners J.F. Hordon and A.F. Gillmore were among the first four to receive licenses. They remodeled their business to accommodate slots, blackjack, craps, roulette and keno, in addition to poker.

In 1949 The Las Vegas Club moved across the street to occupy a portion of the Overland Hotel building.

Sometimes it's hard to know which of the two locations our collectibles came from...to the best of my knowledge, this stuff came from the first location at 21-23 Fremont Street. grin

I just won this cover on ebay, and this is the ebay picture...even a little beat up and battered, it has JK Houssels' name on it! grin

This picture is from Life Magazine, in December 1942. What strikes me about it is a kid sitting on the counter, eating an ice cream cone! grin
