One is a price guide (TCR), while the other is not (ChipGuide).
Also, TCR is limited to gaming monetary instruments of Nevada only, while the ChipGuide is inclusive of those, as well of the monetary instruments of any casino, World-wide, as well as any casino logo'ed collectible, and, any non-gaming chip, jeton or plaque, again, from around the World.
The TCR is not the lone ranger. There are many price guides out there for gaming monetary instruments, and nearly all of them are offered at a price.
ChipGuide is offered at no cost, but with copyright restrictions, as a legacy action (and tribute) to it's creator (Greg Susong).
They are not competing products. In fact, the TCR authors have given permission to the MoGH to use TCR catalog numbers in ChipGuide. More over, there have been instances where chips scans provided to ChipGuide have not been listed in TCR, and accordingly, get pur into TCR.
Lastly, sometimes, the Nevada Gaming Control Board includes quantities of chips made in their monthly Chip and Token Report, and sometimes, quantities made are discovered through manufacturer records, and even disclosures from the Casino or casino cage personnel.
