Do you think that is a copy of an actual chip or just a sketch/pencil rubbing; either sent to Dale or something Dale found in a book/catalog?

I would think if Dale had the piece (whatever it might be) and knew the reverse was different, it would have been illustrated; perhaps as a side-by-side illustration.

Personally, I seriously doubt the piece is a gambling chip and just a token of some sort.

There are illustrations within our hobby; cataloged and exhibited, that are/were mistaken as gambling chips and are not... as there are actual gambling chips illustrated in catalogs which are depicted as being "good luck" tokens or keyring fobs and are not.
