Chips before. (At least once...maybe twice)
These chips have been in most California collections as “Pan Club” Antioch since the 90’s. There was never any proof that this wasn’t true until C. W. Rice cards came out.
Most of the ID’s are now legend and even when they are pointed out to be incorrect...some always has as excuse to why the old ID is correct. The owner moved...chips used at another location...sold to another person...this does happen occasionally...but not in every case.
It is like your parents telling you how tough they had it when they were kids...walking in the snow to school up hill both ways. You hear the story enough...you believe it and tell the next person. (Folklores)
Then you figure out you parents grew up in sunny California and there was no snow EVER where they lived. The evidence soon add up. 🤓
I do believe there were a few chippers who made up ID’s to chips help sell or to make them feel like they were doing a service to the hobby. They did a great disservice.
