Lets look at a few things:
He has won 4 Super Bowls.
He is in the Football Hall of Fame. ( voted in on first ballot )
Won the 1978 MVP.
2019 salary was 1 Million Dollars.
His net worth around 20 Million Dollars. ( even after a few divorces )
His 2020 salary is over 1 Million Dollars and he gets paid for his opinion on what he thinks teams and players will do in a game.
Is he correct every time ? No, but name me one person who is right all the time.
He was a professional football player who became a commentator.
Will he likely make the commentator Hall of Fame ? ( If there is such a thing )
Probably not, but he gives his opinion when asked for it.
He is well liked by a large enough percentage of the viewing audience that he has been on the " air " for many years.
Is he a dumb ass as you say ?
I do not consider him a dumb ass. But that is just my opinion and you have your opinion.
