Re: NCR-Concern in this Caribbean fault....
In Response To: 7.7 Quake off of Cuba ()

For your info only:

There is a fault in the Caribbean causing this and other recent temblors. If you google plates & /or faults of the Caribbean you will see this relatively small fault that goes from the south of the western part part of Cuba, crosses the North of Jamaica and ends after passing the south of Puerto Rico almost right on the island.

There have been multiple large earthquakes in the South of Puerto Rico, same fault, smaller ones on the same fault in different areas but on the sea, and now this very large one affecting Cuba & Jamaica, again in the same fault. Fortunately this last one was right on the fault rather than north or south of it, as frequently happens.

Geologist are concern by the activity in this fault. It remains very active and is a very "unstable" fault connected to the Caribbean (tetonic) plate. Large earthquakes are expected to continue in the very near future, until the activity in the fault diminishes. Any similar temblor closer or on any of the islands can be catastrophic.

In addition, geologysts are looking for the reason of the activity of the fault and whether this activity is just routine or due to something new below the surface.

Not bearer of bad news, but have been interested in Tetonic Plates and faults for a long time and have been following this activity very close since the beggining.

Just trying to put some color on the reason for these recent Caribbean temblors.
