There have been a handful of large expos and fan events in the Phoenix area relatively recently that have had attendees show up with bladed weapons and firearms that have forced event runners to change their bags policy, else they are unable to secure insurance and/or contracts for security services. I'm certain Barrett-Jackson didn't want to enact this policy, but there's not a major event around that allows opaque bags larger than 6" cubed, and some don't even allow that. The crackdown started happening sometime around 2017, if memory serves, and things have been like that ever since.
