Slabbing was a big issue a few years ago with many Club members being militantly negative. As for me....I don't collect chips in slabs. If I bought a slabbed chip from a dealer it would be with the proviso that it be safely removed from the slab before the transaction was complete.
However I don't support the Club's position which seems to be to outlaw slabbing from any venue that the Club sponsors. I base my position on three factors:
1) I'm a big believer in collecting freedom. If someone wants to buy or sell chips in slabs then so be it.
2) We would all like to grow the Club. Maybe allowing slabbing is one part of the solution.
3) There seems to be a rise in real looking but not authentic chips. New collectors could buy chips with confidence.
There was some discussion in the past about the "expertness" of the slabbing "expert." Maybe this is an area where our club could coordinate with the slabbing companies to vet the "expert."
Just my opinion.
