I read a discussion on the ChipBoard a few days ago that mentioned
the use of an 18% Gray Card to improve scanning results... here are
two examples... the scans on the left were made on the standard white
background included with the scanner (Epson Perfection V500)... the
scans on the right were made (with exactly the same settings) on
the 18% Gray Card... check 'em out:
