As I said in an earlier post this Coronavirus quarantine has given me LOTS of time to work on my various Chip collections. Shown below are photos of the sequence of converting and maximizing an existing Storage cabinet to handle a portion of my vast collection.
The reason I needed to enhance my Chip storage capacity was to free up space in my Chip albums for some of my "Core" collections. I decided to transferred some lower value chips from Dansco albums to Storage Boxes.
I currently have around 500 Dansco Casino Chip Albums located in my downstairs office. I bought these albums years and years ago directly from the Dansco factory in Los Angeles. I bought the albums by the 100s at a discount price of around $8.00 each. About 4 years ago I bought another 50 Dansco albums from Eric Rosenblum for $5.00 each - but these albums did not have any pages in them - so I had to go around and look for Dansco pages. I found some pages but I could still use a couple 100 more pages to fill all the albums to capacity.
red]IF ANYONE HAS ANY DANSCO 12 POCKET PAGES DESIGNED TO HOLD 12 CHIPS IN 2X2 FLIPS PLEASE LMK.
Back to the Storage Project #1. To use the 72 drawer Library cabinet located in my Chip Museum (upstairs) to the fullest capacity I had to take the drawers apart (see below) and remove the inside slides to accommodate 14 inch long double row storage boxes that hold 160 chips in 2x2 flips. That's a total of 11,520 chips - it would take about 120 Dansco albums to hold these 11,520 chips.
Here is the economics involved in this project:
1. Original cost of the 72 drawer oak Library Cabinet $475.00
2. Added heavy duty casters to allow moving Cabinet around as needed $50.00
3. 72 - 14 inch double row storage boxes to hold 2x2 flips. $360.00
4. 11,000 - 2x2 flips with inserts - $55.00 per 1,000 $550.00
Total cost to store 11.000 chips in a deluxe oak cabinet = $1435.00 or about 13 cents per chip.
That's a lot of money but it is cheaper than storing these chips in Dansco albums at the current price of around $18.00 each plus the 2x2 flips. That would cost around $2750.00 and on top of that I don't have room for 122 more albums in my office.
Having a great looking and efficient way to store 11,000 chips - PRICELESS !!
Take care,
Jerry
