Pioneer $1 chip story... grin

I posted stuff from the Pioneer Club, before anyone asked for stories. Now, a few people have asked for stories....here ya' go! grin Enjoy! grin

We’d been having a heat wave in Michigan…the heat and the humidity had both been running in the mid-90’s, and it was miserable. My husband wanted to go to an antique/collectibles show in Midland, which is a bit of a drive for us. I didn’t want to go…it was just too uncomfortable to be outside. My husband said we just needed to go really early, to beat the worst of the heat. I still didn’t want to (I’m NOT a morning person), but we did.

We arrived at the fairgrounds and parked in the grass. We walked over to the first table and started searching. I was hot and sweaty already, and starting to get a headache from the heat. I was trudging along, following my husband, when he stopped and flipped the lid open on a cigar box. He poked through a few trinkets in the box, then he pulled out a casino chip. It said Pioneer Club on one side, and $1 on the other side. It was a small-key, rose colored chip. I said it probably wasn’t from Las Vegas, probably not even from Nevada. Happily, he didn’t listen to me. He asked the seller how much, and paid $5 for the chip. He handed the chip to me and I shoved it into my pocket.

We found some cold drinks and walked the rest of the tables. I don’t remember if we found anything else. Finally we headed for the car, and the air-conditioning. I had James’ book in the car and looked up the chip…or I tried to, it wasn’t in the book. But there was a $25 chip, with the same design! Hey…maybe this was something after all!!

When we got home I wrote a note to James. The next day, at work, I made a photocopy of the chip and mailed the copy and the note to James. About a week later we got a reply…yes, it’s from the Pioneer Club in Las Vegas! Being a hot-stamp, it was less valuable than a chip with an inlay, but was probably worth about $600!! Score!!
