So one day we were in an antique shop in Blue Island Illinois (Three Sisters Antique Mall, I think). My husband spotted a chalkware piece with some gamblers playing craps...so cool!! We bought it. We got home and I pulled out the ashtray book, not expecting it to be there...but it was!! Not only was it there...it was one of the most, if not THE most expensive ashtray in the book, valued at $100-$150! How cool was that?!?
The description in the ashtray book is "...In the center of the craps table is an area to hold the casino's ashtray. A cowboy at one end, with the horse's saddle and his bed roll on the floor beside him, has a few chips on the table. At the other end of the table is the Mexican with all the chips stacked in front of him, a big smile on his face, a cigar in his mouth and the dice in his left hand. The blond girl next to the Mexican has a fancy drink sitting on the table and her purse on the floor. The dealer is scratching his head wondering how the Mexican has won so many chips.
Sold in casino gift shops as a novelty souvenir, it could hold an ashtray from any casino which used that round style. When I found this neat piece it had the Aladdin ashtray with it.
Having fallen in love with the piece, I created an ebay search and eventually found a poker game, a slot machine, and a roulette table. Seems like there should be a blackjack table, too, but we didn't find one. The pieces date from 1972-1974...and have a few dents and dings, but they're so cool....
