Though this came out of the Caro Collection sale many years ago, I had not seen the reverse until delivery, at which time was quite a disappointment and wondered why someone would actually tape over plastic with the pigmentated engraving and, the first thing that came to mind was what would happen as soon as I would try lifting the tape, was the red paint going to come with it...!
I let it sit for a few years in the vault and didn't even bother examining it whenever I made a trip to the bank until one day I decide to take it home and try to figure out what to do with it.
I posted pictures of it here for suggestions of which were interesting though, not tried by anyone who had made those suggestions and I didn't want to take a chance experimenting since, one look through the tape told me there was already damaged below.
I thought of testing a small section of the tape with rubbing alcohol (75%) which seemed to dissolve the tape where I was able to wipe the residue away with a cotton cloth but, then I was wondering how the areas of the tape touching the red would react once I applied the alcohol to it; would it dissolve the paint...!
I tried it on a speck of tape which was in contact with the red paint and it seemed not to do any damage and, when I wiped that residue away the red paint below was as bright as all the other red paint on the denomination (it was the tape that was cloudy). I continued the process slowly and was happy with the results.
ChipGuide image 🤔 Btw, that 10000 above sure doesn't look white.
