This BCA (Birl's Convention Adventure) #4 was 25 years in the making !!
The $100 and $500 chips shown below were originally purchased from the Hyatt at Incline Village way back in March of 1996 by a friend of mine while we were on a trip celebrating my 50th Birthday. The trip lasted 3 weeks and we visited every open Casino in Nevada that was North of Las Vegas. This was quite a trip as we put over 4000 miles on a rented Cadillac Sedan Deville. My friend later sold the chips to Dean Porter and they remained in Dean's Brass Core chip collection until I bought the collection in September of 2020.
25 YEARS LATER THE CHIPS FINALLY RETURNED HOME !!!
On Saturday morning June 12, 2021, I left the Silver Legacy Casino in Reno, Nevada and headed for Lake Tahoe for a two day stay at Harvey's. On the way to Tahoe - I went thru Virginia City, Carson City, Gardenerville, Minden and all points in between and stopped at many Casino along the way to pick up slot cards for my collection. I had a prime rib dinner at Sharkey's Casino before heading up the Kingsberry Grade to Lake Tahoe.
At around 9:30 pm I arrived at the Hyatt in Incline Village to cash in the "STILL LIVE" $100 and $500 chips.
I merely went to the craps table and threw the two chips on the table and said " Give me 500 in Quarters and 100 in Nickels". Before you could say CCGTCC the dealer gave me the chips I had requested.
I played a couple of $5 bets on Eleven and then picked up the rest of the chips from the table and went to the cashier and got my $590 in cash. I did not want to take the $500 chip directly to the cage as there may have been some question where I had gotten the $500 chip from. My plan worked perfectly !!
As an added bonus, on my way out the door I took $20 and put it in a Buffalo Slot Machine and on the 3rd spin I hit a Jackpot for $250 - a little icing on the cake !! I left the Hyatt with over $800 in my pocket.
By the way, my friend's initials who originally bought the $100 and $500 chips are W M and you can see this documented on the card Dean had attached to the flip holding the $100 and $500 chips.
Life certainly is strange and full of twists and turns. !!
Take care,
