I’ve been trying to figure out exactly when Paulson first created and began to use its ROULETTE mold. I thought I would share what I have found, and I am hoping that some Roulette chip or Atlantic City collectors or others might have some information or thoughts about it.

From what I can tell, the Paulson ROULETTE mold chips first show up in Atlantic City, and their creation may have to do with the Atlantic City regulations on casino chips, which still call for the word “Roulette” to be on the chip.

As far as I know, the Resorts International Casino is the first casino to open in Atlantic City in 1978. The ChipGuide shows that they have TH&C roulette chips, and presumably later adopted the ROULETTE mold.

In early 1979, the Caesar’s Boardwalk Regency opens, beginning with TH&C roulettes, and later ROULETTE mold chips. http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=NJACBO&v=1438988058

In August of 1980, the fourth casino, Brighton Hotel and Casino opens, and according to the ChipGuide, they only have ROULETTE mold chips. http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=NJACBR&v=413105248

Are the Brighton roulette chips the first use of the ROULETTE mold? Does the ROULETTE mold date to 1980? All later Atlantic City casinos seem to only have ROULETTE mold chips.
