When I first saw the OP (opening post) I was on my handheld and did not notice the scratches on the $2.50. Your post caused be to revisit the OP (on my computer) and I could see right away, 2 types of scratches. the curved one, and the straight line one.

I have made a close-up of the image, and have pointed out the straight line scratch (between the arrow heads). If you notice, the scratch line is not in the middle of the chip, but is just below the center point. This is consistent with chips, sitting in a rack, having a lone chip run along the rack edge.

The curved scratch starts off straight, but then abruply turns. I will suggest that this pattern was produced when the chip in the first row was targeted as the starting point to run the lone chip along the rack edge.

Just my opinion.
