This exact obverse is known with a 5-pointed engraved star directly to the right of CLUB, and was on one example along with the others when the plaques made their debut in Coconut Grove; meaning, that is the way it hit our shores and was not done afterwards. I was in the room when three pieces were first exhibited by the seller.

The plaques were probably reground to remove old carving (they are thin) for their new home. Not an uncommon practice and known throughout Europe and The Americas.
I am a buyer for the piece with the engraved star.
