Bad News For Tyler Poker Players

The owners of Top Shelf Poker Room in Tyler, TX posted on Facebook this morning concerning the recent law enforcement closing of their poker operation. Cards room have been on a really fast pace state-wide and the operation was authorized by government decree as long as players were members to play. Here's the Facebook post:

"Top Shelf Poker Room has been shutdown by Smith County. Claims all poker rooms are illegal in the state of Texas. All the chips, even shirts, poker players money for the night, our business cash, promo money, benefit money for charities in Smith County, and ATM money that wasn’t even ours has been confiscated indefinitely
I guess. going to court like Texas Card House Dallas it looks like. I guess they don’t like legal, sales taxable, fair, safe income in Smith County.
It’s been open for 6 years so what has changed?
We have raised over $10,000 for Smith County non-profits and 100s of toys in this last 12 months and some of that has just been seized as well for this year’s PATH (People Attempting To Help) donation and the $500 for Hi-way 80 women’s shelter (Rescue Mission) on international Women’s day."

This card room stared as Tilt Poker Room and later bought by group of investors and renamed, "Top Shelf." It was a very modern, well run and safe room that was professionally operated. In fact, there was just a "bad beat" jackpot paid out recently.

I will keep everyone informed as information becomes available. The Texas Card House in Dallas, TX is also in current litigation over the state closing them, but they have a case pending in Austin to determine if they are operating as a legal establishment. I think, the popularity of card rooms has drawn the attention of the casinos in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico -- who spend tons of dollars lobbying against casino gambling in Texas.
