Memorial Day-I visited the grave of my old friend Warren Stanley, Constable of North Las Vegas
in the 60s and 70s. He knew many of the old Westside club owners and got me chips from places
I was afraid to go into. One time he asked Z Louie for Louisiana Club chips and Louie said "they no
good, I throw away". He did get me a few stragglers though. Bust-out gambler Felix DeVere is just
a few spots away from Stan. I didn't know him but I did know his wife, Eve. She had an antique
shop downtown where the FSE parking garage is now. She sold me a crap stick with a hollow handle
and a card hold-out device that Felix used in joints around town. I also bought some of his FD chips
and a hand-painted liquor bottle that sat on the back bar of the Last Frontier in 1942. Eve was a
cocktail waitress there and told me stories about her husband.
