“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” almost didn’t get recorded? And when it did, it wasn’t the primary song on the record, but rather the “b-side”? .... ....At first, it wasn’t only reindeer peers that rejected “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Composer Johnny Marks ran a demo of the song by Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Dinah Shore, and none of them wanted to record it. Finally, Gene Autry released the song on the flip side of “Here Comes Santa Claus,” simply because he was persuaded to record it by his wife, Ina. Truth be told, Autry didn’t like it at first, either. Today the song is among the best known of Marks’ compositions and has been recorded hundreds of times. Read the whole story here:
