... to come out of South America...

Hotel Casino Plaza is located at 1757 Avenida Shyris in Quito, Ecador… the Best Western hotel is open
for business – but according to World Casino Directory.com, the casino is now closed. This $1 chip
features a map of South America on one side, and the image of Ruminahui (“stone face”) on the other.

Here's what I learned from Wikipedia... Ruminahui was an Inca general during the war with Spanish
conquistadors in the early 16th century. Spanish invaders led by Francisco Pizarro captured the Inca
ruler Atahualpa and held him for a ransom that was said to be 10 times his weight in gold. Ruminahui
set out from Quito with a large cache of gold to help pay the ransom, but before he arrived in Cusco
(the Inca capital), Spanish soldiers executed Atahualpa.

Ruminahui then hid the gold in an unknown location and returned to Quito. He later fought Spanish
forces at the Battle of Chimborazo and was defeated. Despite being captured and tortured to death,
Ruminahui never revealed the location of the hidden Inca treasure to the Spanish. He is celebrated
in Ecuador on December 1st of every year as an indigenous hero.
